Script Guidelines and Rules

Here are script guidelines and rules that must be adhered to when entering one of our contests or when receiving a script consultancy.

  • Scripts, novels, plays, synopses and articles are accepted in English, French, and German. We accept projects from writers residing in all countries and recommend that they register their scripts with the Writers Guild (CLICK HERE). Screenplays, teleplays and pilot scripts are all welcomed, in any genre.
  • Original, non-awarded scripts. Scripts must be the original work of the author(s) and may not be encumbered by any third party. Scripts that have been sold, produced, or are currently optioned are not eligible, nor are scripts that have previously won a prize at WriteMovies.
  • Industry format. Scripts will not be disqualified for bad formatting but it is better to respect the norms of the industry: standard screenplay format, 12-point Courier font. Standard length is 80-130 pages for full-length features, about 40-60 pages for a TV pilot. Please submit all entries with Cover Sheet at the beginning of the script document.
  • Eligibility. We accept scripts, short scripts, TV pilots, plays, novels, and short stories. Members and employees of WriteMovies and their immediate families are not eligible, nor are any competition judges and their immediate families.
