Los Angeles Industry Liaison role for WriteMovies and TSIM

Los Angeles Industry Liaison role for WriteMovies and TSIM

To reflect changes to other roles in the business, we and our agency partner TalentScout International Management are looking to recruit a new Industry Liaison based in Los Angeles, initially in a part-time role with potential to grow into a full-time role in future.

The aim is to hire someone already based in Los Angeles with a demonstrable track record of engaging with industry and promoting high quality scripts, who will support the company’s ongoing talent pipeline and film production activities – opening new doors every day to help writers get their scripts optioned and produced, get their films made, and provide dynamic ongoing content for the company’s marketing platforms in the process.

The appointment is intended to be the first in a series of steps to expand the company’s Los Angeles presence as both a promoter of exciting new talent and a production company: the right candidate should be ambitious, can-do and proactive to make every aspect of this a reality, including through working in film production, budgeting and packaging as well as marketing, pitching and script development.

At the heart of our business is solving problems with scripts and proposals, to enable them to fulfil their potential without compromising the writer’s vision; championing them to industry; and doing what it takes to get them produced to the right standards. We’ve been doing it for over 20 years, working with Elite Mentors including Tom Craig (RAIN MAN, SHAKESPEARE IN LOVE etc) throughout that time and getting films made including THE LIST (with Wayne Brady and Sydney Tamiia Poitier, 2007).

Candidates should be able to prove their successful track record of working in person in LA to promote great writing and promote their activities on digital platforms. Industry references will be needed and interviews will be held in LA on March 2nd – 6th.

This is a freelance ongoing position, on potentially flexible terms but with monthly minimums required and guaranteed, plus additional responsibilities and additional profitshare available to incentivize growing our client base and productivity.

To apply, please send your resume and a cover letter to info@writemovies.com. Some aspects of the role may be negotiable subject to guaranteed minimums.

Spring 2019 Screenwriting Contest – Semi-Finalists Announced!

Spring 2019 Screenwriting Contest – Semi-Finalists Announced!

When we announced our Quarter-Finalists, we said at the time that the bar had never been higher. The same is certainly true for our Semi-Finalists; what an amazing bunch of scripts! Congratulations to everyone who has made it through to this stage of the competition!

The standard here was so good, we had an incredibly tough time choosing which scripts were going to make it through to the next round. With so many fantastic stories to pick from, you’ve never made our jobs so difficult – or so enjoyable!

When judging scripts, we keep a lot of different things in mind. The uniqueness of the concept, the quality of the writing, the structure and execution of the story. But we’re also looking at potential; with a year of free script development as a prize for our top three, we’re looking for scripts that can go even further and be taken to another level.

If your script didn’t make it through this time, it’s hard not to feel disappointed – but you should remember just how tough the competition has been . Even making the Quarter-Finals of our Spring 2019 Screenwriting Contest was an achievement, so well done!

As ever, if you’re not certain why we haven’t put your script through to the Semi-Finals, we’d recommend that you buy one of our Script Report services. That way you can get professional standard feedback on your work – and get free entry to our next competition, the Fall 2019 Screenwriting Contest which is now open for submissions!

And so, here we announce a group of scripts that we couldn’t be more proud of. Ladies and gentlemen, here are the WriteMovies Spring 2019 Screenwriting Contest Semi-Finalists!

WriteMovies Spring 2019 Screenwriting Contest – One Month To Go!

WriteMovies Spring 2019 Screenwriting Contest – One Month To Go!

Our inaugural Sci-Fi and Fantasy Award may have closed for submission, but the WriteMovies Spring 2019 Screenwriting Contest goes on – and the final deadline is now just one month away!

Your last chance to enter will be on Sunday June 16th, with a Grand Prize of $2000 plus guaranteed pitching to industry and a year of free script development for the top three scripts. So get to work polishing that dialogue, tweaking your story, and fleshing out those characters, and make sure you give us lots of reasons to get excited!

But what will help you to get our attention? Here are some things we look out for:

  • A unique concept. We read a lot of scripts, so show us something we haven’t seen before!
  • Fully rounded characters that we love. If we’re invested in the people, we’ll always want to keep reading!
  • Strong commercial potential. If the project won’t make money, it has little chance of getting made.
  • A great opening. Make sure you grab us with the first ten pages. First impressions matter!

You should also take a look at our Director Ian Kennedy’s article on “What your writing submissions are telling us” for some hints and tips on what mistakes to avoid, and more details on what we’re after.

And then, when you’re finally ready… Click here to submit to the WriteMovies Spring 2019 Screenwriting Contest by June 16th!
