A Look Back at WriteMovies in 2025 – Thank you for being part of an incredible year!

As we head toward the end of the year, we wanted to take a moment to look back at what WriteMovies has been working on throughout 2025 – and to thank everyone who’s engaged with our contests, courses, and services.

Writing Contests:

This year, we ran two major international writing contests, including our 80th major contest after over 25 years promoting great global writing. We received hundreds of entries across a wide range of formats and genres. Across both contests, we recognised:

8 prize winners
10 Honourable Mentions
33 Semi-Finalists
66 Quarter-Finalists

We’re looking forward to continuing to develop and spotlight our 2025 winners throughout 2026.

Courses & Mini-Masterclasses:

Alongside this, we delivered 11 live courses and mini-masterclasses, including our series with Hollywood producer Calix Lewis Reneau on How to Produce and Distribute Your Own Film.

This series will be made fully available on demand in early 2026, allowing writers and filmmakers to access the full programme at their own pace.

An Acclaimed Article from WriteMovies Founder Dr Alex Ross:

Earlier this year, WriteMovies founder Dr Alex Ross had his article “Can the prescience of Blade Runner engender a deeper understanding of our relationship with AI technology?” published by the Institute of Physics in collaboration with Cambridge University.

The article was subsequently picked up by Harvard, NASA, and The Smithsonian, and has since become the most downloaded article of the IOP’s 2025 journal on Embodied Intelligence.

Ghostwriting & Original Projects:

Through our WriteMovies Ghostwriting service, we also helped introduce TERRA – a distinctive, high-concept blockbuster sci-fi thriller. Whilst we first announced the project earlier this year, this marks the first time we’ve shared that it originated through our Ghostwriting Service, which is open to writers, producers, and creatives looking to develop their stories with professional support.
