Just a week ago we announced the winner of our Horror Award, but the wheels never stop turning here at WriteMovies – it’s now time to announce the Quarter-Finalists for our Fall 2020 Screenwriting Contest!
Deciding Quarter-Finalists for our contests is always one of the toughest things we have to do. A lot of good scripts miss out – often by the smallest of margins – as we choose the most promising projects to take forwards.
Our contests are specifically designed to give you an idea of where your script stands in the current market. So if you haven’t made it through this time, that’s a clear sign that your script needs more development: focus on getting the basics right, make sure you’ve got a great concept and that you sell it to us, and – most importantly – that your script is commercially viable.
Your script needs to convince us from start to finish – every scene should make us want to read the next. Make sure you also avoid outdated stereotypes and gender references ((did you call the first female character you introduced ‘attractive’ when it had no significance to the plot? Did you do the same for the first male character?).
And if you have made the Quarter-Finals, congratulations! Keep an eye out for our Semi-Finals announcement in a couple weeks time, where you’ll get an even better sense of how your script stacks up against the competition.
If you still don’t know where to turn or how to improve your work, buy one of our script reports for the professional help that you need. Our Studio Coverages show you exactly how a studio would judge your script right now, and our Development Notes give you in-depth advice the specific advice to make your script better.
Ladies and gentlemen, here are the WriteMovies Fall 2020 Screenwriting Contest Quarter-Finalists!
