With the large variety of submissions, the competition was tough. If you didn’t make it don’t be disheartened; here are some valuable lessons we learned from your scripts for your future projects:
Keeping a modern audience engaged, stands as the most crucial, yet overlooked element. Remember, your script won’t come to life if nobody wants to watch it so ensure you understand your target audience. Also remember that in today’s era of analytics-driven storytelling, where executives pore over how many seconds of each movie or show that people watch before drifting away, getting into the story quickly is more important than ever.
Use our feedback on your first ten pages. The opening of your script is pivotal, hooking the viewer, setting expectations and making a lasting impression. Many of our Winners and Honorable Mentions made use of the resubmission opportunity to sharpen their scripts and improve their results!
Keep varying the kinds of conflict we see too; it’s pivotal for maintaining engagement. Conflict breeds drama, our interest wanes without it. Keep challenging your protagonist – we’ll appreciate them all the more for overcoming their struggles.
