This is where the competition starts hotting up! We’ve been hard at work reading and judging for our Fall 2019 Screenwriting Contest, and after some careful decision making, we’ve decided on our semi-finalists…

This is always a tough stage of any contest. There are lots of close calls to be made, with some great scripts only just missing out on making it through to the next round.

Sometimes it comes down to the simplest of things. Is this a unique concept we’ve never seen before? Do we like the characters and want to follow their stories? Is the plot well-structured and clear?

When the margins are so fine, it’s important to get the basics right. Keep that in mind in your screenwriting: don’t run before you can walk. Make that you understand the fundamentals before trying to do anything to complicated!

And don’t forget how vital your first ten pages are. These are the most important pages of any script, being your chance to make a good first impression and grab our attention. A lot of producers don’t have time to read much more than this, either – and that’s something we take into account when judging!

Our semi-finalists all impressed by doing the basics well and engaging us quickly. So here they are; the Fall 2019 Screenwriting Contest Semi-Finalists!
