Script Pipeline’s report of July 2019 script sales shows that horror and thriller films are proving popular at the moment, demonstrating a big interest in the genre from the industry right now! Here’s our pick of the report…

  • Two supernatural thrillers have been picked up by separate companies, and both are spec scripts. The first will be helmed by ESCAPE ROOM director Adam Robitel, and the second will be written and directed by Jacob Chase.
  • Additionally, a new horror film called THE UNHEARD has been picked up by Burn Later Productions. Between these three productions, it’s definitely a good month for people who like getting scared!
  • After immense success with the last film in the series, Taika Waititi will be coming back as writer and director of THOR: LOVE AND THUNDER. We thought that THOR: RAGNAROK was a big turning point for the Marvel franchise (and its titular character) and a fantastic entry, so having Waititi return was really a no-brainer!
  • It might be a very different project to GOOD WILL HUNTING, but it’s great to hear that Matt Damon and Ben Affleck are reuniting to work on an adaptation of the book THE LAST DUEL. Having already won an Oscar Best Original Screenplay, maybe they’re now looking to win one for Best Adapted…?

If you’re looking to sell your scripts, don’t forget that one of the key prizes for our screenwriting competitions is guaranteed pitching to industry – and with our inaugural Horror Award now open for entries, this is the perfect time to get involved!
