David Arquette’s dark comedy/political satire of horror films has a distributor, and a plan for rollout that includes a 50-theatre sneak preview this weekend.

After Dark Films has signed on with David Arquette’s directorial debut. The Hollywood Reporter indicates the studio will be distributing The Tripper in the United States. Arquette also produced the film in partnership with his wife Courtney Cox, through their jointly held Coquette Productions.

The film stars Jamie King, Thomas Jane, Jason Mewes, Lukas Haas, Balthazar Getty, and “Pee Wee Herman’s” alter ego, Paul Reubens. The Tripper is set at a 70’s era rock concert, where a serial killer, obsessed with Ronald Reagan, is moving through the crowd, attacking the stoned hippies in attendance. Now THAT’S subtle.

Arquette and Cox do appear in the movie, in brief cameo roles. The film will get its real release in early 2007, with a rollout to some 500 theatres. The film is getting a sneak preview this weekend in 50 US theatres that are running After Dark’s Horrorfest.
